Actual Studio astronomical chart in a north-facing horizon view
Example calculated chart · customise your own moment.

Studio separates astronomical calculation from design rendering. Your location and observing time produce a deterministic scene. Colours, typography and chart shapes present that scene without adding fictional stars.

Data and reference checks

The adapted AT-HYG catalogue supplies positions, magnitudes and proper motion. Astronomy Engine provides astronomical transformations and planet positions. Selected cases are independently checked against Skyfield/JPL and Stellarium, including northern and southern hemispheres, daylight-saving and fractional timezone offsets, and dates in 1950 and 2050. Passing these cases does not establish a precision guarantee for every date.

Supported dates and local time

Supported Gregorian dates are 1950–2050. Studio rejects impossible local times and asks which occurrence to use when daylight saving repeats a time. Historical calendar conversion is not provided. Future timezone laws may change.

Horizon and atmosphere

Altitude is measured from a level mathematical horizon, with a user-selected horizon cutoff and elevation. Terrain, buildings and weather are not modelled. Optional standard refraction and illustrative extinction are approximations. The star brightness cutoff is a catalogue threshold, not a measurement of local light pollution or naked-eye visibility.

What the reconstruction omits

Stellar annual aberration, parallax and radial velocity corrections are omitted. UT1 approximates modern UTC; before 1960, the ISO time represents civil universal time. Planet magnitudes and lunar illumination are approximate; plotted sizes are artistic symbols rather than true angular diameters.

The free preview and paid exports use an identical frozen scene and design. Read the source licences, try the generator, or choose the digital product. These charts are artistic reconstructions, not navigation instruments.
